Generic general discussion forum threads ahoy! So what's the last movie you watched? What did you think of it? Perhaps you can find out about new movies or recommend something or some other feel good lovey thing. Anything to get this place active.Anyways. For me, it's Metropolis (Lang, 1927) Metropolis used to be my favorite movie for most of high school, and I don't think I had actually watched it at all since then. So recently, one of the theaters downtown showed the most recent restored/longer version (which ended up being like 2 and a half hours), and I remembered why I love(d) this movie so much. I don't think there will ever be another movie that is so ahead of its time like Metropolis was. Some of the visuals to this day still sort of blow my mind, and they're the better part of 100 years old at this point. Man. I know it's usually regarded as one of the better movies ever made, so I think of a bunch people who consider themselves into "film" (ugh) have already seen it. But if you haven't, you should! Go read a plot synopsis, I'm lazy.

Let me attempt this reply again:
Earlier this week I watched El Topo for the first time. Now, had I have watched this back when I was eating LSD like candy, I probably would have fallen head over heels for this, and the rest of Alejandro Jodorowsky's work.
It's an avant-garde western. One half focuses on a violent gunslinger, the other a redemption tale. If amputees, ample amounts of blood, and slaughtered animals are your thing, then I highly suggest checking out this gem.

I watched "Gonzo" (2008) recently- a biocumentary on the late Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, narrated by Johnny Depp and including never before seen archived footage. Yay! I enjoyed this portrait of the legend i had heard and read so many insane stories about through the years! What a man- what a life! If you haven't seen this you need to.

I just watched Holy Mountain, another one from Alejandro. Found out Company Flow used a sample from the movie, and had to watch it.

While we're mentioning strange, peculiar films, anyone else see Trash Humpers by Korine ?

I saw Trash Humpers. I kind of hated it. It might have been exactly what the director wanted you to feel.

i enjoy these kinds of threads - nice to see what everyone's checking out, familiar titles and recommendations alike.
my most recent was a semi-annual rewatch of eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, probably my all time favorite since its release.
