^ more intense/ambient than their debut?? i saw them live last year, just a crushing wall of sound It's more dynamic overall. The first track is the total crusher, then there's a lot of more ambient tracks, and a few other heavier moments later on. Just way more mature in my opinion...I really wasn't expecting their follow up to be this good.

i'm loving The Rural Alberta Advantage right now. their album Departing came out in early march, and i quite like it! i feel like it's a little sleepier than their last record from 09, but it's still quite good and worth buying

it sounds a lot like the last one but a little more spacey. most people seem to like it better, but since i never liked the first one much it's just an upgrade to slightly less ambivalence. "the shrine / an argument" is cool i guess.
beyond that, i've had a complete turnaround on 2011 music. battles, cunninlynguists, grouper, cat's eyes all great. hellyeah.

Graveface June release spectacular!
Hospital Ships - "Lonely Twin" - Devastating in the best way possible. I guess like Ryan, I don't understand how this guy isn't exponentially larger than he is. The sweetest/nicest pop songs I have ever heard. Only had a quick few listens so far (like 3 in the past day or so), but I could see this easily ending up in my top 5 of the year. 4.5/5
The Loose Salute - "Getting Over Being Under" - I'll admit, I think Loose Salute's debut is just sort of average at best. A few bright spots, but overall, the album doesn't really hold my attention. With the new album though, I think Loose Salute is really stepping it up. Still chock-full of your favorite alt-country-ish jams, I think I would love to put this album on while I'm grilling up some burgers with friends in the summer. 4/5
The Nighty Nite - "Dimples" EP - At first I thought I was going to be a little disappointed since I thought this was gonna be a full length album, but it shows you that length doesn't mean everything. Sort of dark brooding rock, it's perhaps not what you would expect from a typical Graveface offering, but it's something you shouldn't sleep on. If you can't get into "In My Hospital Gown", you're a jerk. An EP that shows a lot of promise. 4/5

Stuff i've listened to & really dig:
This Will Destroy You - Tunnel Blanket Ptarmigan - The Forest Darling Tim Hecker - Ravedeath, 1972
<3
There's a bunch of stuff I haven't gotten around to yet; so much music, so little time!

^That Tunnel Blanket record is really good. Joan Of Arc - Life Like is FUCKING AWESOME! I scored a copy of this Microphones/Golden Boots/Paleo/Bishop Allen 4-way split 7" that was recorded on a 1940's steel wire recorder. The songs have a nice warbly sound to them. I dig it.
New Bibio, on the other hand was kinda disappointing. It has it's moments, but it's just a little too poppy sounding. Maybe i should spin it some more... Any thoughts on this one?

There are like 3 songs on that record I like. Other than that I hate it and I am very disappointed in Bibio and I miss Hand Cranked/Fi-esque stuff. Hand Cranked is my favorite Bibio, I FUCKING LOVE it. Got it on vinyl, that album was made for wax.

I was listening to it again today, and I'm still not into it. At first I thought there was something wrong with me when I couldn't get into it... Glad I'm not the only one. I really love everything up to this record, and was looking forward to it for months. Looove Fi and Hand Cranked, and all of the rear for that matter. The Apple and the Tooth is excellent too.

Unfortunately, Bibio's latest is disappointing. I truly enjoy the Ambivalence Avenue album. There's such warmth and almost a cross between folk and ambient music going on that's just right up my alley.
