Okay. So at this point, I'm almost certain that everyone should be forced to listen to this band.
My first exposure to them came in the form of 2009's Where Wolves Wear Wolf Wear. Looking to cash in on 10 records I had earned from the flood drive, Ryan gave it a personal thumbs up, and the description had me sold. Little did I know, the album is completely captivating whirlwind. Meant to be played as a single track, it doesn't take long for you to figure out why. Other than flowing together with a masterful grace, the music is so damn good you won't want to skip anything or hit pause.
If you read another thread of mine, you'll obviously (ha) know that this is one of my favorite albums of all-time, and the obvious #1 album of 2009.
Now, I'm listening to their other Graveface release, 2006's Perhaps We Should Have Smoked the Salmon First. A bit different than Where Wolves, this album is very much in a post-rock vein, but the album still demonstrates a wide range a sound to keep your attention. "By Then It Was Summer" is pretty much as perfect as a song can get. Absolutely delightful.
Anyways. If you into post-rock, absolutely check out Perhaps We Should Have Smoked the Salmon First (Grave022). If you're into a more epic, rock-ish (?) sound, check out Where Wolves Wear Wolf Wear (Grave044). Either way, you're in for such a treat.
I think Toman is truly the most underrated band on the Graveface label, and I hope so much to hear more from them in the future.
