Do you [Ryan] have any tips for songwriting? I have tried many a time to write music, but every single time i've attempted to, it's resulted in something that's horribly cliche and unbearably boring [both on the musical end and on the lyrical end, though much most frequently in the latter]. I understand that you aren't always satisfied with your work, but do you have any habits or tricks that you like to employ when you write music? Any secret magic bloody rabbit feet?

Ryan what sort of effects and such did you use for that lovely guitar in the final version of A Sunbeam In Every Sip? I am in love with that hawaiian (?) sounding guitar and have been curious for years how people get that sound. No effects. That's just the sound of my jagmaster through my fender super six. Glad you dig! That is utterly amazing... That is probably my favorite song of all time and that just added like, 20+ points to it's amazement factor. I figured you had that thing wired out the ass up to a bunch of different effects! Ryan how can I grow to be as cool as you?

Uncle Graveface, nothing for the Record Store Day this year ? I cannot believe it ! Nah. I'm kind of burnt out on it. It may just be too big a production for my tastes right now. June 7th is my record store day!

I write some stupid, cheesy shit. I think the key is not attempting to write. I never really have. Everything comes to me and I just jot it down or hum it. It all happens in sleep - of which there's only 4 hours a night max. I am not responsible for anything I do, my mind is. Sorry.

The only thing I did was years ago I had 5 springs installed in the back of the Jagmaster so I could use 13s and thicker (string reference). Sometimes I'll use a bass string but that warps the neck slightly.

Very interesting, thanks for the insight. you have mentioned many a time [in interviews and the like] that you only sleep 4 hours a night, and i don't mean to pry [feel free to tell me i'm getting too personal], but i am curious: how come? is it an insomnia related thing, or do you feel you're more creative that way?

Hello, I'm doing a record label report on Graveface (music industry major), and I was wondering if you could provide some information that isn't so readily available online:
-Any label history -Current employees, CEO, A&R, corporate structure, branch offices (from what I've found, it seems you do pretty much anything by yourself, but just wondering if you have any helpers) -Any recording and/or mastering studios? (if so, how much is analog/digital) -Do you own your own distribution, or use a multinational affiliation? -Do you ever use piggyback deals or deal with artist development? -Do you provide tour support? -Is Graveface affiliated with any management company or agency group? -Do you expect an artist to submit a master recording before entering into a deal? -Is there any national press about Graveface? -Have you gotten many synch licenses for your artists? (I noticed a few BMSR and Tobacco tracks in "This American Life," but I havent found anything else) -Does Graveface do any in or out of house publishing?
Any information would be greatly appreciated. I've been a Black Moth fan for a long time, and I've been looking into different Graveface artists for a while. I think both the actual music, and the quality of the recordings of Graveface artists, along with the novel ways that you release these recordings, make for an awesome company, that I will no doubt continue to support. Also, if you ever need an intern in the next few summers, I may be available.
Thanks a lot.
