Hello friends!
So it seems I'm going to be doing my first ever Kickstarter to raise funds for my first book release under Graveface Press. For 5 years I've attempted to get the capital for it and every time it seems I'm there, I need to press/repress something that drains me. The Kickstarter will go live in the next few weeks but I wanted to ask you folks what you thought the incentives should be for such a thing. I'm thinking hand silk screened William Schaff tee shirts, signed 11x11 book, perhaps a credits page, test pressings of the Molina 10", 7" lathe cut records with songs by some of the artists involved & that's about all I have so far. Any ideas are appreciated. The book is going to cost at least 13k but I'll probably only be asking for 10k as I'm fearing not even being able to generate that much income through Kickstarter.
Skanks!

Would it be possible to have one of the incentives be a copy of the book, so that someone could basically pre-order it by donating however much a copy of it is going to cost?

No matter what you offer, I'll contribute. Anything to keep this Graveface ship sailing.

Kickstarter is awesome! I think the incentives you have so far are great. I think there should be a few more 'big ticket' items such as an associated artist doing a private show via skype or ustream or something. Maybe a live performance? Digital downloads of the album are always good. Or an electronic version of the book? Original artwork by Schaff?
People also love getting updates, so maybe chapters are posted as they are completed or access to promotional/concept art? Maybe demos of songs that didn't make it on the 10"?
I think the more interactive you can make it for people, the more likely they are to donate. The first two days and last two days are when there are high spikes in contributions. Those periods account for about 20-30% of donations.

This sounds great. I think big ticket items as posted above would be a great idea. Live performances would be killer. Maybe a limited pressing as well?
All of the ideas you posted are perfect for it. Could if be tiered so if you buy the most expensive you get everything under it (or almost everything)?

I find that I gravitate more towards something that is "pretty" to open and is marketed just that way. The more exclusive the better. I think, like mentioned previously, that tiering your bundles let's those who are the die hards have a chance to get all of the goodies first chance. It brings more appeal to the process also since you can market it that way. I just learned about kickstarter the other day, a few of my friends are doing something similar:
Worth checking out..

Same here. I'm not particularly worried about incentives, I just want to see the book and 10" come out. Anything else is gravy.

Maybe for a pledges amount Schaff could take a photo that the funder submits and "Schaff-itize" it... kind of like a caricature, but in his style and not necessarily of a person? Have Schaff design a tattoo for the funder? Screen printed tees (that could double as promotional item)? Personalized note hand written in the copy for the funder?
