some of my favorite places to eat in Pittsburgh:
-sharp edge beer emporium: food is average, wings are good, but OMG 30 belgian beers on tap daily? with a huge import list? awesome.
-udipi (monroeville): best indian food in the pittsburgh area IMO. sure, the place is a dive and the service is mediocre, but the food is great. vegetarian only. go there on the weekends and get the weekend-only special, pav bhaji.
-bangkok balcony (squirrel hill): great thai food. located on forbes ave. between murray and shady.
-the original hot dog shop (oakland): what a dive, but the O fries are AWESOME! be careful going in here late at night, haha.
-oh yeah! ice cream & coffee (shadyside): nice little ice cream / coffee shop on highland ave (near alder st.). used to live a block away from this place, tons of gourmet coffees and things to mix with your ice cream. definitely vegan and hipster friendly!!
-rialto pizza (greenfield): this is only here because it was right up the road from my 1st apartment in pittsburgh (the memories!). the chicken / spinach / bacon pizza is awesome! not sure about other stuff there...
RIP: korean kitchen. used to be a GREAT, tiny little korean kitchen restaurant at the corner of oakland and forbes in oakland. this place was tiny, and in the basement under a GNC (lol), but the food was awesome. i don't even think this place had a formal title. the owners retired and now it is a shitty "taiwan cafe".
i'll post more if i think of any.
