My Dad got those once. Didn't realize how strong they were, drank a bunch and then was headbanging to Neil Young with his shirt off on the couch for four hours, stereo at full volume.

Best dad.
Yeah, one of the best qualities of Golden Monkey is how well it masks it's massive 9.5% ABV. Then again, I like every tripel I've tried, and they're all like 9.0+% abv, but they all go down so smooth and you feel a nice buzz before you know it.
I'm only drinking my second Monkey and I feel nice and toasty.

Tonight I've been sippin on some Bells Oarsman Ale, which I didn't realize was a wheat beer, so I'm a bit disappointed, but it's not bad. Just sort of tastes like champagne to be honest.

I remember when I first had Amadeus, that stuff had the exact taste and texture of champagne. Loved it. Wish it was cheaper though.

So lately I've started slowly creeping into investigating the world of stouts. My only real exposure had been a 4-pack of North Coast Old Rasputin, which is a tasty and rich Russian Imperial Stout with a hefty 9% ABV. Last Friday was payday for me, so I went to the local liquor store to buy another bottle of Rodenbach Grand Cru, as well as something new. I grabbed a bottle of Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout because I heard good things and it was relatively cheap. Like $4 or so. Eh. It was a lot smoother than the RIS Old Rasputin, but that's to be expected from a basic oatmeal stout with I think (?) 5% alcohol. So I'm out and about with the lady yesterday because she had to get a new external hard drive amongst other things, and we stopped by the local holy grail of alcohol shopping, the Habersham Beverage Warehouse (On Abercorn, fu Habersham). We always manage to get something new when we stop in, so I grabbed a 4-pack of North Coast's Pranqster, a Belgian Strong Pale Ale, which was just delightful. I only had one last night, but it's a tremendous blend of yeasty tones, with sweetness and spice. Man, I wish they came in 6-packs....or were cheaper. But in my quest for stouts, I ended up grabbing a Great Divide Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout. Haven't had it yet, but have heard good things. The lady got a 6-pack of Left Hand's Milk Stout, which intrigued us both because "milk stout" sounds funny. She also got a bottle of Left Hand's Wake Up Dead RIS, which I think might have the best fucking art ever. ffffffffffffffff so great So yeah, beer is pretty cool.

Left Hand is solid stuff. Although I'm biased... Had a band meeting last night, suplimented by some Hennepin and Troegs Hopback Amber Ale. Not too shabby. Recently I've tried Rogue's Irish Style Lager (pretty mild but good none the less, can't really go wrong with Rogue) and Goose Island Fuente (? I think); super amazing Belgian style ale. Very sweet. Also, had a Bell's Two-Hearted at the Gifts From Enola/If These Trees Could Talk show at the Beachland Tavern in Cleveland the other night.

Probably going to the best booze store in town tomorrow afternoon. Probably will buy something nice or two. Debating on getting something cheap and shitty so I don't spend all my money on beer. Hahaha.
Would like to drink a bunch of my favorites, but I haven't seen any DFH Sah'tea is a while, and I would love a bottle of that right now.

Wow, so I'm sipping my first old Rasputin tonight.
Wow.
I was not a fan of stouts until now.
Otherwise, I've recently tried a Stone Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale which was surprisingly good, although very hoppy/bitter. Also, a Harpoon Winter Warmer which I was not anticipating to be very interesting, but was very pleasantly surprised by. Also, my room mate shared a bottle of beer one of his co-workers brewed (he works at a restruant), and wow, it was seriously one of the best beers I've tasted in awhile. Lots of hops, high ABV from what I could tell, but also highly carbonated for such a thick beer. It was amber in color and lots of spices, or so my room mate told me. Similar to a Christmas/Winter type ale, but also reminded me a little of Great Lakes Conway Irish Ale.
